Nokia Drone Networks (NDN) represents a cutting-edge, fully automated drone-in-a-box system aimed at enhancing and digitizing various industrial and public safety applications. Leveraging advanced cellular technology, this adaptable BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) solution facilitates real-time data acquisition and transmission, characterized by high bandwidth and minimal latency.
A Extensive Turnkey Solution for Dependable Data Acquisition
Nokia Drone Networks is a standalone, network-agnostic platform that employs European-manufactured multirotor drones, automated docking stations, and both 4G/LTE and 5G connectivity.
The industrial-grade Nokia drones come equipped with a dual EO/IR gimbal featuring thermal and HD visual cameras, ensuring comprehensive and high-quality data collection and surveillance at any hour. an integrated automatic parachute deployment system enhances safety when operating over populated areas, safeguarding both the UAV and its payload in case of emergencies.
The automated docking stations enable drones to autonomously launch, complete missions, return, and recharge without human intervention, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. These systems are especially well-suited for deployment in remote locations and can endure challenging environmental conditions. This scalable solution allows for the remote management of a fleet of drones from a centralized operations center. All payload data is securely streamed in real-time over public or private networks and stored on our edge cloud platform, ensuring comprehensive data governance and easy access for further analysis.
Fully Certified and Ready for BVLOS Operations
In contrast to conventional Wi-Fi or radio links, 5G technology allows connected drones to operate as far as the network coverage extends, enabling true BVLOS capabilities. This feature allows the Nokia Drone Networks solution to cover extensive areas and distances in a single flight, making it particularly effective for operations in hazardous or hard-to-reach locations.
Nokia drones are outfitted with dual modems for critical redundancy and can support up to four network connections. The system is CE- and FCC-certified and can be operated under EASA regulations, categorized under SAIL II or SAIL III, depending on the mission requirements.
Flexible Purchase and Drone-as-a-Service Options
Manufactured in Finland, Nokia Drone Networks provides a comprehensive solution from a single source, featuring a robust supply chain that includes all hardware, software, and service components. Customers can opt to purchase the system outright, lease it for a limited duration,or even utilize it for a single flight, allowing access to Nokia’s innovative drone-in-a-box capabilities without ample capital investment.
With our open APIs, Nokia Drone Networks can seamlessly integrate with your existing software, systems, and data analytics tools, enabling full automation tailored to your specific operational needs.

Use Cases
Emergency Services & Public Safety
Nokia Drone networks is perfectly suited for aiding law enforcement, emergency response, search and rescue, and other public safety operations, providing essential aerial ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) capabilities that enhance situational awareness and facilitate better decision-making. Key applications include:
- Pre-arrival intelligence gathering for police units
- Locating missing individuals using thermal imaging
- Monitoring borders and perimeters
- Identifying and tracking hotspots for urban and forest fires
Currently, 70 remotely-operated Nokia Drone Networks units are deployed in Belgium, providing round-the-clock support for police and fire services, enhancing situational awareness during the critical initial moments following an emergency call, and enabling teams to formulate more effective responses.
Industrial Inspection & Monitoring
Nokia’s BVLOS drones significantly improve efficiency across a variety of utility and critical infrastructure inspections. They can safely inspect power lines, solar farms, refineries, and wind turbines from a distance, eliminating the need for operational shutdowns or risking personnel safety.
Oil & Gas Sector
The Nokia Drone Networks solution is exceptionally well-suited for both onshore and offshore oil and gas operations, facilitating remote inspections and surveillance without the need for costly equipment or support vessels.Use cases include:
- Inspecting hard-to-access areas like cranes and derricks for potential damage, identifying minor issues before they escalate
- Conducting security patrols and surveillance at gas refineries
- Detecting gas leaks in pipelines
- Inspecting remote offshore platforms such as oil rigs
- Identifying oil spills
Mining Operations
With their long-range capabilities and secure connectivity,Nokia drones are ideal for supporting mining and quarrying activities, enabling efficient surveying and inspection, and also continuous automated monitoring and security over extensive areas.
These drones can also be equipped with LiDAR scanning payloads, allowing for detailed 3D point cloud generation for pit modeling and accurate volumetric measurements, such as stockpile calculations.
