Wave Engine Corp. specializes in the growth of pulsejet engines tailored for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Our propulsion systems for drones have been validated in flight, offering a cost-effective and scalable solution with a thrust-specific fuel consumption that rivals conventional turbine engines.
Our innovative technology aims to deliver dependable jet propulsion to the UAV industry, achieving unprecedented efficiency and scalability, thereby advancing the sector and enabling new high-speed drone applications.
Innovative Engine Technology
Our engine technology employs pressure waves rather than rotating components, resulting in a streamlined and quickly manufacturable design devoid of moving parts, which enhances resilience against debris and damage. These engines leverage the compressible properties of air to produce thrust for high-speed operations, featuring a distinctive combustion cycle:
- A mixture of fuel and air is ignited within the combustion chamber.
- The gases’ temperature and pressure rise considerably.
- Hot combustion gases are expelled from both ends of the tube, generating thrust.
- The momentum of the high-speed gas jets creates a partial vacuum inside the tube.
- Fresh air is drawn into the engine to fill this vacuum, additional fuel is injected, and the cycle continues.
Operating Cycle of the Wave Engine
This approach offers numerous benefits for high-speed aircraft propulsion, including the absence of blending requirements, fuel efficiency comparable to turbine engines, and a reliable mid-air starting and restarting capability. Furthermore, wave engines can operate on a variety of commercially available fuels, including biofuels like bioethanol E85, making them suitable for sustainability and decarbonization efforts.
Introducing the J-1 Wave Engine
Advanced Pulsejet Engine for UAVs

With thrust capabilities reaching up to 53 lbf (236N), it operates on standard gasoline, with options for E85 bioethanol or Jet-A/JP-8 heavy fuel, all while providing the operational simplicity and advantages of our wave engine technology.
