Boxfish ROV – Remotely Operated Vehicle
Professional ROV for underwater inspections and remote exploration
The Boxfish ROV is a sophisticated video ROV system that provides sharp, uncompressed, near-zero latency 4K video. Weighing only 23 kg, it can be quickly set up and launched by a two-person team, operating at depths of up to 500m as standard, with options for 1000m and beyond. Eight 3D-vectored thrusters offer six degrees of freedom, enabling the underwater vehicle to navigate in any direction, even in confined spaces and strong currents.
The ROV’s uncompressed main 4K underwater video camera is complemented by two additional ultra-wide-angle navigation cameras, providing exceptional surround visibility and enhanced situational awareness. Two 8,500-lumen lights ensure excellent illumination, allowing for image capture even in complete darkness. The control station features a 17-inch 4K monitor for clear image and video viewing, along with a 10-inch screen displaying footage from the ultra-wide-angle cameras.
The Boxfish ROV can operate for up to 14 hours on a single charge, and its sealed quick-access ports allow for easy charging in the field. In case of unexpected challenges, the ROV’s fault-tolerant design enables it to continue functioning even with multiple fouled thrusters. If communication is lost, the underwater robotic system will automatically ascend to the surface using its own power.
High-Precision Underwater Photogrammetry
The Boxfish ROV is designed for high-resolution 3D underwater photogrammetry, featuring an uncompressed 4K video stream, six degrees of freedom, and an actively stabilized platform. Underwater assets can be captured from all angles with optimal lighting, ensuring complete and accurate models. The result is high-resolution, crisp images that yield the highest quality 3D photogrammetry products.
USBL Positioning
The Boxfish ROV can be enhanced with an optional navigation package that includes a USBL (ultra-short baseline) positioning system for tracking and control. A USBL transponder is mounted or suspended from the mother vessel, wirelessly communicating via high-frequency sound waves with a beacon installed on the ROV. For real-time position monitoring, a GPS module can be attached to the USBL system on the vessel. The positioning software integrates data from the USBL transponder and the GPS module to calculate and display the ROV’s absolute global position on the Boxfish Control Station or a separate laptop.
