Introducing the XPand6215: A Robust Solution for Demanding Applications
Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES) has unveiled its newest 3U VPX embedded system, the XPand6215, tailored for high-speed data acquisition and signal processing in challenging environments, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and various unmanned systems. This innovative system features multiple high-speed optical connections, an Intel Xeon D-1500 processor, and a Xilinx Kintex UltraScale FPGA, ensuring exceptional performance and reliability within a compact, two-slot design optimized for size, weight, and power (SWaP).
Advanced Features of the XPand6215
the XPand6215 is a rugged commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) chassis that accommodates two conduction-cooled 3U VPX modules. One of these slots houses the XPedite2570, a versatile fiber-optic I/O module built on the Xilinx Kintex UltraScale FPGA architecture. This module boasts 12 protocol-agnostic optical transceivers capable of operating at speeds up to 10.3125 Gb/s, complemented by 8 GB of DDR4 ECC SDRAM across two channels, achieving an impressive aggregate bandwidth of 38 GB/s. The optical transceivers utilize 50/125 μm multi-mode fiber with MT connectors and are rigorously tested to perform reliably within a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C,making them suitable for extreme conditions.
These optical connections are enhanced by a user-configurable Xilinx Kintex UltraScale FPGA,which strikes an ideal balance between performance and cost, making it particularly effective for packet processing and digital signal processing (DSP) tasks in embedded systems.
powerful Processing Capabilities
The second slot of the XPand6215 features the XPedite7670, a 3U VPX Single Board Computer that utilizes the Intel Xeon D-1500 processor family (previously known as Broadwell-DE). this processor can support up to 16 Xeon-class cores within a single, energy-efficient System-on-Chip (SoC) configuration, substantially boosting the embedded system’s performance. the Xeon D processors, with configurations offering up to 12 cores, are designed for extended temperature operation, functioning effectively in environments ranging from -40°C to +85°C.
Additionally, the XPedite7670 is equipped with up to 16 GB of DDR4-2133 ECC SDRAM. an XPort3305 10 Gigabit ethernet XMC module integrated into the XPedite7670 provides a robust 10GBASE-SR Ethernet port. The XPand6215 also features a built-in 28 VDC power supply, negating the need for an extra power supply slot. Furthermore, it includes a memory bay for a removable 2.5-inch solid-state drive (SSD), allowing for storage options of up to 1 TB.The fully equipped system weighs approximately 9.11 lbs. with an SSD and 8.75 lbs. without, making it an excellent choice for advanced military and industrial applications that demand compact and lightweight solutions.
Compliance and Reliability
The XPand6215 meets stringent military standards, including MIL-STD-461E/F, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-704F, having successfully undergone a series of rigorous tests to guarantee dependable operation in harsh environments.
