X-ES has unveiled an extensive range of single board computers (SBCs) powered by the Intel Xeon D-1500 processor family, now available in over 90 distinct configurations. These embedded SBCs provide a robust computing solution tailored for various applications in both commercial and military unmanned systems.
The Intel Xeon D processor boards from X-ES offer diverse functionalities across standard and custom form factors, including 3U VPX, 6U VPX, and COM Express. To date, the company has successfully delivered at least one unit for each of its 16 Xeon D processor-based products, featuring intricate designs that include dual mezzanine support and integrated fpgas.
The Intel Xeon D-1500 series (previously known as Broadwell DE) combines high performance with low power consumption, making it ideal for compute-intensive embedded applications. Unlike the Intel Core i7 series, which includes graphics support, the Xeon D focuses on maximizing computational resources, accommodating up to 16 Xeon-class cores within a single, energy-efficient system-on-Chip (SoC) package.
Notably, the Xeon D is the first Intel processor to offer native extended temperature support, a critical feature for many defense and aerospace applications. These processors, with configurations of up to 12 cores, are rated for operational temperatures ranging from -40°C to 85°C.
X-ES’s Xeon D SBCs are designed to endure harsh environmental conditions. Their ruggedization strategies include Class III printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies that enhance reliability across temperature fluctuations, strategically placed mounting holes to reduce vibration impact, and hybrid copper-aluminum heat frames that optimize thermal performance while minimizing weight. All X-ES SBCs undergo rigorous thermal and structural testing in compliance with MIL-STD-810F standards.
For applications demanding stringent data protection, X-ES provides several Xeon D SBCs equipped with integrated SecureCOTS technology. This innovative feature combines the Xeon D processor with a security SoC or FPGA, enabling custom functions to safeguard data from unauthorized modifications or observations.
The XPedite7672 3U VPX SBC and XCalibur4646 6U VPX SBC utilize SecureCOTS capabilities with a Microsemi SmartFusion2 security soc. Both models are equipped with multiple 10 Gigabit Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, along with XMC support.
Additionally, the XPedite7674 3U VPX SBC and XCalibur4643 6U VPX SBC implement SecureCOTS functions using a Xilinx Kintex UltraScale FPGA. This FPGA is designed for low-power, high-performance digital signal processing, making it suitable for applications such as radar, sonar processing, and signals intelligence. Both models also feature multiple 10 Gigabit Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces,as well as XMC support.
To facilitate cost-effective solutions and expedite deployment, 3U VPX modules based on the Xeon D processor can be integrated into a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) rugged chassis from X-ES’s renowned XPand6200 Series. These sub-1/2 ATR systems boast a lightweight two-slot design that incorporates cutting-edge power-saving and performance-enhancing technologies.
