Persistent Systems has unveiled a cutting-edge embedded Mobile Ad Hoc Networking (MANET) radio, crafted with a focus on size, weight, and power (SWaP) efficiency. This innovative Embedded Module is engineered for seamless integration, enabling a cohesive network for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), and various sensors. Beyond facilitating access to the Wave Relay MANET, the module is equipped with a high-definition video encoder and an integrated Android computer. It also supports persistent’s thorough range of Interchangeable Frequency Modules, empowering users to utilize advanced 3×3 MIMO communication technology.
“Our vision is a connected world where unmanned systems and sensors can effortlessly interact with field teams. The Embedded Module signifies a significant advancement towards a networked ecosystem, enabling connected individuals, systems, and sensors to operate either autonomously or collaboratively,” stated Dr. Herbert Rubens, CEO of Persistent Systems.
This Embedded Module consolidates the communication, computing, and video functionalities of unmanned systems into a compact and efficient package. By incorporating an HD video encoder and an onboard Android computer, it eliminates the need for separate, specialized video and computing devices, resulting in reduced space requirements, lower weight, decreased power consumption, and minimized engineering time for integration.
Dr. Rubens added, “As the MPU5 gained traction among users, there was a growing demand for third-party solutions that could seamlessly integrate with the Wave Relay MANET. We designed the Embedded Module to support our Wave Relay Ecosystem partners, offering them a straightforward solution for integration into their UAVs, UGVs, sensors, and cameras.”
The Embedded Module is fully compatible with Persistent’s entire lineup of Interchangeable Frequency Modules. When paired with an Interchangeable Frequency Module, operators can harness the power of 3×3 MIMO technology and 6W of transmission power, enabling exceptionally long-range communications at speeds surpassing 100 Mbps. MIMO technology utilizes radio frequency reflections and diverse antenna placements to enhance range, bolster reliability, and optimize throughput. Furthermore, the Interchangeable Frequency Module facilitates easy frequency adjustments as unmanned systems are deployed globally across various sectors. This adaptability also ensures compliance with evolving global spectrum regulations, making system design more resilient for the future.
By integrating the Embedded Module, unmanned platforms become part of the Wave Relay Ecosystem, where all UAVs,UGVs,sensors, and systems are interconnected. The module employs Persistent’s Wave Relay MANET routing to establish multi-hop IP connectivity among various Wave Relay radios—both Embedded Modules and MPU5s—thereby extending range and simplifying deployment. This integration allows unmanned systems and sensors from different manufacturers to communicate on a unified network, while MPU5 radio users can control platforms, monitor video feeds, and manage cameras seamlessly.
