Wavefront Systems Introduces Advanced Deep-Sea Sonar Models
Wavefront Systems has unveiled two innovative variants of its renowned Solstice MAS Multi-Aperture Sonar technology.
Expanded Depth Capabilities
Along with the previously available models rated for depths of 300 m and 600 m,the new variants are designed for depths of 1500 m and 3000 m. This enhancement broadens the sonar’s applicability across a diverse array of underwater platforms.
Combining Technologies for Superior Imaging
The Solstice sonar system merges the advanced capabilities of Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) with the dependable performance of traditional Side-Scan Sonar (SSS), resulting in consistently high-resolution imagery.
Efficiency and Performance
With a power consumption of under 20 W, the Solstice sonar provides an extensive 200 m swath and supports rapid data collection at speeds of up to 6 knots. Its co-registered bathymetry makes it particularly favorable for low-logistic autonomous underwater vehicles (auvs), where energy efficiency is crucial for extended missions.
Diverse Applications
Solstice is versatile, finding use in various fields such as mine countermeasure (MCM) operations, route surveys, habitat assessments, archaeological investigations, and the detection of fluid and gas leaks. Its onboard processing capabilities facilitate near real-time execution of detection algorithms, including automatic leak identification and the recognition of mine-like objects.
Industry Insights
Paul Badger, Managing Director of Wavefront Systems, stated, “This growth is thrilling as it allows a broader range of customers to benefit from Multi-Aperture Sonar technology. Coupled with options for deployment as a pre-configured AUV Payload Module, we believe Solstice is the ideal choice for the next generation of small, agile AUV platforms in both defense and commercial applications.”
