Precise Positioning for Unmanned Vehicles: GPS & GNSS Receivers, Antennas & Inertial Systems

Revamped NovAtel Firmware Boosts Processing Speed, Precision, and Signal Acquisition!

NovAtel, a developer of positioning solutions for land, marine, and aerial unmanned systems, has announced the release of version 7.07.03

NovAtel Unveils Enhanced Firmware Version 7.07.03 for GNSS Solutions

NovAtel, a leader in positioning technologies for terrestrial, maritime, and aerial unmanned systems, has introduced its latest firmware update, version 7.07.03. This update is optimized for the TerraStar-X GNSS correction service and is compatible with the OEM7, SPAN CPT7, and PwrPak7 products, delivering important enhancements in processing efficiency, precision, and signal acquisition times.

Performance Enhancements Across Applications

The newly released 7.07.03 firmware for NovAtel’s SPAN GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) combined with INS (Inertial Navigation System) technology boasts improvements of up to 20% in horizontal positioning and 8% in vertical positioning. These enhancements are particularly beneficial in sectors such as agriculture and marine operations. Additionally, the update enhances motion detection capabilities, leading to a more reliable time to convergence.

Key Advantages of the Update

The firmware update brings several notable benefits:

  • Accelerated satellite acquisition, even at lower C/N0 levels, which reduces the time to first fix during both cold and hot starts.
  • The SPAN Marine Profile streamlines the setup process for marine applications, enhancing the heave performance of the receiver.
  • The SPAN Rail Profile substantially boosts positional accuracy during extended GNSS outages in railway settings.

Expert Insights on the Update

Neil Gerein, NovAtel’s Director of Product Management, stated, “The enhancements in our SPAN Marine and SPAN Rail profiles will profoundly influence application performance and reliability. The SPAN Marine Profile’s improved heave performance allows users to commence their tasks much more swiftly due to a simplified setup for marine dynamics.Meanwhile, the SPAN Rail Profile enhances positional accuracy during prolonged GNSS outages, which is vital for rail applications that frequently encounter signal obstructions from trees, tunnels, and urban structures.”
