Exploring the Future: USVs Tested at Offshore Wind Farm

OceanAlpha has confirmed that its Dolphin 1 rescue USV (unmanned surface vessel) has been used to train crewmembers at the CGNR Offshore

OceanAlpha has announced that its Dolphin 1 unmanned surface vessel (USV) has been utilized for training personnel at the CGNR Offshore Wind Farm located in jiangsu province, China. These training sessions focused on emergency scenarios where individuals might need to rescue themselves or others from potential drowning situations.

The Dolphin 1 serves as a remote-operated water rescue craft, bridging the gap between conventional foam buoys and jet skis. This battery-operated vessel can reach speeds of up to 12 km/h, effectively navigating through waves and turbulent waters to assist those in distress.

In addition to rescue operations, USV technology is increasingly being employed in wind farms to monitor the underwater habitat and assess the condition of turbines. By providing precise and timely survey data, this technology facilitates improved planning for maintenance, ultimately lowering operational costs and enhancing safety measures.

OceanAlpha is committed to delivering top-notch operational and maintenance solutions for offshore renewable energy initiatives. The company is set to participate in the Abu Dhabi International petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) 2021, where it will showcase its expertise in USV technologies and services applicable to offshore wind and various energy sectors.

Wang Zhihong, the Head of the Quality, Safety, and Environmental Protection Department at CGNR Offshore Wind Farm, remarked, “The incidence of failure among offshore wind turbines and related equipment tends to be high due to severe weather conditions. USVs are poised to play crucial roles in the operation and maintenance of offshore wind farms in the near future.”
