Strategic Alliance for Enhanced Maritime Training

Robosys Automation has entered into a three-year collaboration with the Australian Maritime College’s AMC Search to elevate MASS-certified training, with the goal of advancing remote operator education globally.

This partnership was unveiled during the first International Conference on Maritime Autonomy and Remote Navigation (ICMAR nav),which took place from November 27 to 30,2023,at the University of Tasmania’s AMC Search in Launceston,Australia.

Robosys Automation, based in the UK, and AMC Search have conducted extensive trials involving maritime autonomous surface ships (MASS), focusing on both crewed and uncrewed operations.Their collaboration aims to equip mariners with cutting-edge technology, training, and protocols for integrating human and AI functionalities.

Insights from Ocean Business 2023

During ocean Business 2023, Nick Bonser from AMC search and Nigel Lee from Robosys delivered a joint presentation titled “Understanding Human and AI Collaboration for Future Shipping,” highlighting the findings from their MASS trials.

VOYAGER AI: A Game-Changer in Maritime Autonomy

The trials showcased Robosys’ innovative AI-powered maritime autonomy software, VOYAGER AI. This technology allows customary crewed vessels and unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) to be remotely controlled from a mothership or shore, featuring advanced capabilities such as collision avoidance and decision-making support.

Conducted at AMC Search’s state-of-the-art maritime Simulation Center in Launceston, the trials included both isolated scenarios and mixed human-machine environments, addressing a variety of complex shipping challenges.

AMC Search chose Robosys’ VOYAGER AI software for its training initiatives due to its user-amiable and adaptable mission settings for both manned and unmanned systems.

Nick Bonser, Simulation & Autonomous Maritime Instructor at AMC Search, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to partner with Robosys Automation, given their extensive expertise in this field.”

he added, “Their agility and dynamism enhance our simulator operations and MASS operator training curriculum, including the provision of Collision Avoidance decision Aid (CADA) capabilities for our trainees.”
