Vanguard, a subsidiary of Briggs & Stratton, has unveiled its eagerly awaited Vanguard Lithium-Ion 48V 1.5kWh* Commercial Battery (Si1.5).
This launch is part of Vanguard’s strategy to broaden its battery offerings, introducing both swappable (si series) and fixed (Fi Series) configurations to cater to a wider array of applications and equipment requirements.

Advancements in Vanguard Battery Technology
The Si1.5 Battery is now available for purchase and boasts a compact, self-contained design with a convenient handle for effortless swapping between devices or between devices and chargers. Supported by the extensive Briggs & Stratton dealer network, this product is designed with user convenience in mind. The ability to interchange batteries among various machines minimizes downtime and reduces overall ownership costs.
Engineered for safety and longevity, the Si1.5 features a robust diecast aluminum shell that mitigates vibration and shock. It is also designed to perform reliably in extreme temperatures and in the presence of debris and moisture. Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) looking to integrate the Si1.5 into their products will find its global interface design beneficial, as it enhances flexibility while lowering integration expenses.
Swappable Interface: Expanding Submission Possibilities
As a leader in off-highway electrification, Vanguard recognizes the hurdles faced by OEMs and end users in transitioning to electric equipment, particularly concerns about range and charging infrastructure. To tackle thes issues, Vanguard has drawn inspiration from the established technology used in handheld cordless tools—swappable battery packs.
The Si1.5’s brand-agnostic design not only facilitates easy swapping across various applications but also allows for compatibility with multiple brands, enhancing flexibility and cost-effectiveness.
OEMs from diverse sectors have recognized the critically important potential of the Si1.5. vanguard is currently collaborating with manufacturers in industries such as construction, commercial turf, golf, fire and rescue, industrial, and recreational vehicles to integrate the Si1.5 into their offerings.
David Frank, Vice President of Electrification at Briggs & Stratton, stated: “Our commitment to innovative battery technology has been ongoing for years. We are enhancing our electrification efforts by introducing a high-power, swappable battery pack that will empower more OEMs to venture into battery-powered equipment.”
“In developing this configuration, we applied insights from our fixed battery series to create a solution that offers an excellent lifecycle and remarkable runtime while operating at high amperage. This new option allows us to deliver the efficiency, versatility, and reliability our batteries are known for to a broader customer base across various applications.”
Engineered for Rental Markets
The Si1.5 is designed for quick swapping of fully charged packs between applications, along with a durable exterior that makes it ideal for the rental sector. Its advanced Lithium-Ion technology provides a lifespan of 1,000 cycles without maintenance, ensuring that rental equipment remains operational and available for use. With a standard charging time of under two hours, equipment powered by the Si1.5 alleviates concerns about range.
paul Bramhall, Director of Electrification/Rental — EMEA at Briggs & Stratton, remarked: “In an industry where uptime is critical, the flexibility and durability of the Si1.5 will revolutionize the equipment rental sector and benefit end users substantially.”
“It will grant rental companies greater control over their equipment’s service and maintenance while providing end users with the assurance that was previously elusive for rented electric products. Moreover, users can confidently operate Vanguard-powered equipment, knowing it is supported by the reputable Briggs & Stratton brand and its global service network.”
Comprehensive Solutions: Fixed or Swappable
The Si1.5 is part of Vanguard’s expanding battery product lineup. The company’s journey into electrification began in October 2019 with the launch of its 48V 5kWh* Commercial battery. As then, Vanguard has introduced a competitive array of seven power options, including 1.5kWh, 3.8kWh, 5kWh*, and 10kWh*, all designed for maximum integration flexibility.
The Si1.5 combines high power and excellent cycle life in a compact design, unlocking application possibilities across various industries eager to adopt electrification.
