Amprius Technologies Secures Major Order for SiCore™ Batteries in UAS Sector
Amprius Technologies has successfully obtained a significant purchase order from a leading Unmanned Aircraft system (UAS) manufacturer, following positive results from field trials of its innovative SiCore™ battery cells.
Successful Trials Lead to Production Order
This substantial order comes after rigorous testing and qualification processes, resulting in the integration of Amprius’ batteries into the manufacturer’s fixed-wing UAS platform. The company plans to deliver these cells in the latter half of 2025, aligning with the customer’s production scaling efforts. This agreement not only showcases Amprius’ ability to provide cutting-edge battery technology at a large scale but also ensures a reliable supply for the client.
Diverse Applications of SiCore™ Technology
In addition to this recent contract, which follows a previous agreement for Light Electric Vehicles (LEVs) announced in September, the versatility of Amprius’ battery technology is evident across various sectors. The SiCore cells are designed to substantially decrease the weight of UAS while enhancing flight range and endurance. These high-performance batteries are crucial for essential UAS operations, from initial take-off to prolonged flight durations.
Strategic Expansion to Meet Growing Demand
To address the increasing demand for its products, Amprius has strategically expanded its manufacturing capabilities through partnerships with several contract manufacturers in Asia.Announced in June, these collaborations allow for immediate access to gigawatt-hour scale production without the need for additional capital investment or delays associated with new factory construction.this expansion positions Amprius to effectively meet the surging demand for high-performance batteries as the UAS market continues to grow.
Future Outlook in Electric Aviation
As the demand for advanced battery solutions escalates across military, commercial, and industrial sectors, amprius is poised to play a pivotal role in the electric aviation landscape. Dr. Kang Sun, CEO of Amprius Technologies, remarked, “This $15 million purchase order highlights the increasing need for our next-generation battery technology and affirms the exceptional performance of our batteries in the UAS market. As more defense and commercial aviation clients finalize their battery qualification processes, we are witnessing a robust pipeline of subsequent commitments. Our SiCore cells establish a new benchmark for energy density and reliability in challenging environments, positioning Amprius to lead the rapidly evolving electric aviation industry. We expect to maintain this momentum with additional high-value orders in the near future.”
