Bristow Secures Long-term Contract for Advanced Search and Rescue Operations
Bristow Group has recently been granted a decade-long contract by the UK Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) to implement the Second-Generation Search and Rescue (UKSAR2G) initiative. This program will prominently feature the deployment of the CAMCOPTER S-100 Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) developed by Schiebel.
Innovative Capabilities of the CAMCOPTER S-100
The CAMCOPTER S-100 is a Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) UAS that operates without the need for a designated launch or recovery site. It is capable of functioning around the clock, even in challenging weather conditions, and can carry various payloads over distances of up to 200 kilometers, whether on land or at sea.
Building on established Success
This new agreement enhances the existing services that Bristow has been providing to the MCA since 2015, which includes the critical Search and Rescue (SAR) helicopter operations for HM Coastguard.
Endorsement from Schiebel Group
Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group, expressed pride in the selection of the S-100 for UK SAR missions, stating, “The unmatched maritime capabilities of the S-100, along with its extensive operational history globally, make it exceptionally suited for the UKSAR2G program.”
Proven Track Record and Future Developments
Bristow first acquired the Schiebel CAMCOPTER S-100 system in January 2019, which included two aircraft, a Ground control Station (GCS), and comprehensive engineering and logistical support. This initial setup served as a Proof of Concept to demonstrate the effectiveness of integrating unmanned systems with traditional manned aviation in SAR operations, aiming for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness.
In 2022, Bristow expanded its capabilities by receiving a second S-100 system, which is now stationed along the southern coast of England to assist MCA and HM Coastguard operations in the english Channel. Additionally, Bristow has invested in training more pilots and engineers to ensure the maintenance and operational readiness of its S-100 fleet in the UK.
