Collaboration Between ALTUS LSA and Naval Group for ATLAS 8 UAV Integration
ALTUS LSA, a prominent European firm specializing in thorough unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for critical defense and civilian operations, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Naval Group to incorporate the ATLAS 8 Heavy Lift UAS into naval platforms.
Naval Group stands as a leading manufacturer of naval vessels, providing robust and adaptable platforms to maritime forces globally. This partnership aims to modify the ATLAS 8 octocopter UAS for deployment on frigates, facilitating a diverse range of maritime operations. This strategic alliance signifies a pivotal step towards enhancing the utilization of UAS in naval logistics, intelligence operations, and combat scenarios.
Overview of the ATLAS 8E Heavy-Lift UAS
The ATLAS 8E is an electric octocopter UAS specifically designed for the transportation of essential cargo. With a maximum payload capacity of 60 kg, it is well-suited for various mission types. The system is engineered for modularity, catering to both civilian and military needs. Additionally, a Hybrid version of the ATLAS 8 is under advancement, which will have the capability to carry up to 100 kg.
The adaptable payload compartment can hold:
- Medical supplies
- Replacement parts and industrial tools
- Modular weapon systems (for military applications)
To ensure compatibility with naval vessels, the ATLAS 8 will undergo a marinization process, adapting its structure and electronics to fit seamlessly with existing platforms and command systems.
The integration project will focus on three distinct operational variants of the ATLAS 8. The Heavy Lifter variant is designed for logistics missions between ships and shore, facilitating the efficient movement of supplies and equipment across maritime platforms. The ISR variant will be tailored for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance tasks in naval settings. Furthermore, the Armored variant is being developed in partnership with MBDA france.
This collaborative effort will address specific naval operational requirements, ensuring the system’s reliability in maritime environments.
ALTUS LSA brings a wealth of experience in creating modular and durable UAS platforms for demanding conditions, while Naval Group’s established expertise in naval system integration lays a solid groundwork for this partnership.
