Introducing YAKAMOS-RT: A cutting-Edge Retractable Sonar System for Shallow Water operations
YAKAMOS-RT,an innovative retractable sonar system designed for vessels navigating shallow waters, will make its debut at the Meteksan Defense booth during the IDEF 2023 Exhibition, scheduled from July 25 to 28,2023,in Turkey.
This advanced sonar technology has been specifically engineered to enhance anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities for smaller platforms, including Patrol Boats and Unmanned Naval Vehicles, which typically cannot accommodate customary hull-mounted sonar systems.
Featuring a compact and lightweight array structure, YAKAMOS-RT operates at high frequencies without compromising the maneuverability of the vessels, thanks to its retractable design.
Offering considerable operational benefits over existing systems, YAKAMOS-RT leverages refined algorithms and a user-kind interface tailored for ASW. it incorporates proven algorithms from the YAKAMOS Sonar family, which have demonstrated effectiveness across various maritime environments for many years.
Özgür CANKARA, Vice-President of Meteksan Defence, emphasized that YAKAMOS-RT represents Turkey’s inaugural retractable sonar system aimed at ASW: “We are committed to utilizing our expertise and resources in sonar technology to create innovative products. The capability of smaller platforms, particularly domestically produced unmanned naval vehicles that have recently shown remarkable success, to counter submarine threats is a priority for us. Our goal was to develop a sonar system that is not only compact and lightweight but also meets the ASW requirements while being cost-effective for these platforms. Through innovative efforts, we have successfully completed the development of YAKAMOS-RT.”
“I anticipate that this new sonar system will be deployed swiftly on various domestically produced surface platforms, particularly the ULAQ Unmanned Surface Vessel. I am confident that it will provide a significant competitive edge for our shipyards in the global market, especially for platforms intended for export to countries with shallow waters.”
