Knight Optical, a prominent global provider of precision optics that are rigorously tested for metrology, has introduced an exciting new product line—a set of three components designed for various laser applications, with a particular focus on ultrafast laser systems.
As a supplier of high-performance optical components tailored for laser technologies, Knight optical has consistently adapted to the dynamic demands of it’s clientele through innovative in-house developments, improved services, and a broader selection of optics that cater to an expanding array of laser applications. The latest additions to their product lineup include:
Advanced Laser Line Mirrors

Wide-Angle Laser Line Mirrors
Designed for compatibility with Yb:YAG, Yb:KYW, and Yb:KGW diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSSL), Knight Optical’s wide-Angle laser Line Mirrors operate effectively at angles ranging from 0 to 45°.
Broadband Laser Line Mirrors
These mirrors function within the 700 to 900nm range, making them particularly suitable for ultrafast pulse lasers like Ti:Sapphire lasers, where issues such as pulse broadening can arise.
Both the Broadband and Wide-Angle Laser Line Mirrors are equipped with an Ion Beam Sputtered (IBS) coating, recognized for its ability to meet the stringent requirements of laser system manufacturers globally. The quality of these optics is further enhanced by a stress Compensating Coating (SCC), which optimizes surface flatness.
Low Group Delay Dispersion ultrafast Laser Mirrors

Knight Optical’s Low GDD Ultrafast Laser Mirrors are engineered with a Group Delay Dispersion (GDD) of less than 20 fs², making them ideal for Yb:YAG (515nm, 1030nm), Yb:KYW (1030nm), and Yb:KGW (1030nm) diode-pumped solid-state lasers. These mirrors also feature an Ion Beam Sputtered (IBS) coating and a surface quality rating of 20/10, substantially reducing scattering.
Additionally, Knight Optical provides an upgraded option with a ‘Superior’ Laser Damage Threshold (LDT) for extended durability.
High-performance Thin-Film Polarisers
These thin-film polarisers are available for wavelengths of 515nm, 1030nm, and 1064nm, and are coated with dielectric multilayers, ensuring high efficiency due to minimal absorbance in the coating.
At their designated wavelengths, they achieve over 99.9% reflectance for s-polarisation while maintaining a transmission rate (Ts) greater than 98% for p-polarisation.
Superior Laser Damage Thresholds & Enhanced Functionality
Discussing the meaning of these new product launches, Knight Optical’s Product Developer, Helen Derbyshire, stated: “With a robust presence in the laser industry, we are acutely aware of the challenges manufacturers face when sourcing optics, such as troublesome scattering, inadequate GDD specifications, or the short lifespan of components due to low LDTs.
“In creating our new line of laser optics,we prioritized high and superior LDT qualities to ensure long-lasting,top-tier optics. This, combined with our ion Beam Sputtered (IBS) coatings and Stress Compensating Coatings (SCC), guarantees that customers utilizing ultrafast laser systems can trust their applications will perform at the highest standards.”
