Voyis has launched a new version of the Discovery Stereo camera, now rated for depths of 300 meters, offering the same high performance and precision as its predecessor, but at a more affordable price and with a neutrally buoyant design.
In the previous year, Voyis set out to transform underwater exploration with the introduction of the Discovery Stereo camera, which featured an impressive depth rating of 4000 meters and high-accuracy dome viewports.
This groundbreaking device provided genuine depth perception and real-time 3D modeling capabilities for Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) platforms in the marine industry. The Discovery is not just a camera; it functions as a comprehensive vision system that captures low-latency piloting video, high-resolution still images, and 3D models concurrently.
Equipped with a broad 75°x75° field of view and integrated edge computing, the system quickly produces 3D depth maps, facilitating true autonomy for tasks such as precise manipulator automation, accurate vehicle docking, and visual tracking, and also maintaining position without relying on seabed bottom-lock.
Advantages of the 300m discovery Stereo Camera
A standout feature of the 300-metre rated Discovery Stereo camera is its neutrally buoyant construction, achieved without sacrificing the system’s established accuracy. This innovation considerably eases integration into smaller ROVs for shallow water tasks, ensuring that piloting dynamics remain unaffected.
Now, the most intricate details of the underwater habitat can be captured using smaller, more cost-effective platforms that are easier to deploy. The neutrally buoyant Discovery Stereo camera enhances stability and user-friendliness, enabling the capture of stunning images, videos, and 3D data with straightforward integration.
The accompanying nova Mini lights are compact and utilize corrected optics to broaden the illumination coverage. This ensures that the entire field of view of the camera is well-lit, maximizing target coverage and enhancing the effectiveness of tracking algorithms.
Moreover, the 300-meter rated Discovery Stereo camera produces the highest quality datasets available in this depth category. While other shallow-rated stereo products often compromise performance to meet lower cost and weight requirements, the 300m discovery maintains full functionality and accuracy in a more optimized design.
This latest version is specifically designed to support operations in shallower waters without sacrificing data quality or precision.
By focusing on both performance and versatility, the discovery Stereo camera enables users to explore shallower environments while ensuring the remarkable quality of the data collected. Its advanced capabilities not only raise the bar for underwater inspections but also make it an essential tool for various applications in ocean sciences and civil infrastructure, where precision and data integrity are critical.
