ATMOSPHERE stands at the forefront of satellite communication technology tailored for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and drones. UST is thrilled to announce our partnership with ATMOSPHERE as a supplier, and we will be showcasing their innovative solutions and expertise across our platforms over the coming year.

New Supplier Profile Launch

We are excited to unveil ATMOSPHERE’s UST supplier profile, meticulously crafted by our team in collaboration with the company. this Silver profile highlights their advanced SATCOM technology, which facilitates beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) command, control, and communication for long-range UAS operations globally. Their technology has garnered recognition from prominent industry leaders and organizations,including Thales,Airbus,the German Aerospace Centre (DLR),and the French National Space Research institute (CNES).

Key products and Features

One of the standout offerings is the PLANET 9770 UAV-L SATCOM terminal,which provides reliable satellite connectivity for UAVs through the Iridium Certus 100 service. This terminal delivers native IP connectivity with a maximum throughput of 22 kbps for outbound data (from the aircraft) and 88 kbps for inbound data (to the aircraft).

This compact and lightweight device features Ethernet and serial interfaces, along with SSD storage, and includes an integrated GNSS receiver for precise location and timing. Users can choose between low- or high-profile antennas, both of which do not require a ground plane.

Another notable product is the PLANET 9770 FTI (Flight Test Instrument) Terminal, designed specifically for the development of new drone platforms.This terminal can be seamlessly integrated into both rotary and fixed-wing UAVs, offering global midband connectivity via the Iridium Certus 100 service, with similar throughput capabilities as the UAV-L terminal.

Equipped with two Ethernet and two serial interfaces for connecting external sensors and devices, the FTI terminal also features an integrated GNSS receiver for autonomous location and timing. It utilizes a low-profile passive antenna and is currently in the process of achieving DO-160 qualification.

The PLANET 9523 is a lightweight communications terminal that leverages both Iridium SATCOM services and terrestrial cellular networks. Acting as a versatile mobile router, it ensures critical connectivity and real-time data exchange for autonomous and BVLOS drones.

This terminal supports communication with external devices through Ethernet, serial connections, or an optional Wi-Fi module, and includes an integrated GNSS receiver for accurate location and timing.

For manufacturers and systems integrators, the PLANET 9523 TC06 Board offers an OEM solution that enables UAVs to be equipped with both SATCOM and LTE connectivity. This board features a 9523N Iridium modem and a Telit cellular modem with SIM card slots, along with an SD card slot for data storage of up to 512GB.

It allows for IP connectivity with quality of service (QoS) management across Iridium and cellular networks, supporting data rates of up to 50 Mbps with LTE and 2.4 kbps with Iridium. Additionally, multiple boards can be interconnected for enhanced throughput, with a variant available that excludes LTE capabilities.

Cloud-Based Solutions

ATMOSPHERE also offers a cloud-based PLANET application Service, which provides remote access to any of the company’s embedded devices through a web interface accessible from any tablet or PC. This thorough flight management service includes essential features such as tracking, messaging, telemetry management, and weather data exchange.
