Oceanalpha has revealed that the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) has chosen its SL40 unmanned surface vessel (USV) after triumphant functional evaluations, to aid in conducting measurement surveys within the port.
Equipped with a Kongsberg M3 multibeam echo sounder and a suite of advanced sensors, the SL40 will enhance the HPA’s hydrographic unit by facilitating measurements in shallow and challenging areas, as well as in other locations that benefit from the efficiency and capabilities of a USV. The decision to select the SL40 was influenced by its compact design, extraordinary maneuverability, stability on the water, and user-kind operation.
The SL40 is capable of being programmed with specific mission paths that it can follow autonomously, allowing operators to focus on data acquisition and other operational systems. Additionally, the vessel features a Collision Avoidance system that identifies obstacles in its path and halts the USV, significantly reducing the risk of collisions and accidents.
