UAVHE SL, a prominent manufacturer of drone engines, has reached a pivotal achievement with the successful trials of its RW1-300 Hybrid Engine, now adapted to run on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
This advancement underscores UAVHE’s dedication to eco-friendly aviation solutions, perhaps transforming the sector by enhancing performance, improving fuel efficiency, and minimizing emissions.
The RW1-300 Hybrid Engine features a Wankel-type rotary design, equipped with an integrated generator/booster that offers either 11 or 22 kW. This engine is tailored for unmanned aerial vehicles, merging the strengths of internal combustion technology with hybrid functionality to maximize efficiency and output. The hybrid system allows the RW1-300 to produce a total of 65 horsepower.
One of the standout features of the RW1-300 engine is its superior fuel efficiency, rivaling that of four-stroke engines by utilizing ultra-lean fuel mixtures. Unlike conventional systems that rely on belts or exhaust gases, this engine employs an electrically driven supercharger, allowing for precise control of rotational speed across various operating conditions, irrespective of altitude or atmospheric pressure.
The RW1 series is offered with an aircraft-style gearbox and a variable pitch propeller, along with a helicopter variant that includes a 12:1 gearbox and a hybrid electric pre-rotation system.

Andrew Bogdanov, CEO of UAVHE SL, remarked: “It’s premature to dismiss internal combustion engines in aviation. By leveraging cleaner fuels and refining processes, we can significantly cut emissions while achieving better fuel efficiency than many all-electric alternatives. The specific energy density of SAF surpasses that of any currently available batteries. For extended missions, the UAVHE RW series engines are ideally suited due to their long service intervals and cost-effectiveness.”
Through the use of SAF and innovative engine design, UAVHE SL’s revamped RW1-300 Hybrid Engine not only enhances performance but also empowers clients to adopt a more sustainable and eco-conscious aviation strategy. Key advantages for users include diminished greenhouse gas emissions, reduced particulate emissions, improved fuel efficiency, and a lower overall environmental footprint.
Looking forward, UAVHE SL has plans to conduct additional tests aimed at optimizing engine performance, pursue certification to align with industry standards, and provide retrofit kits for existing engines. By broadening testing and certification initiatives and offering retrofit options,UAVHE SL aspires to make sustainable air travel more accessible and feasible for a wider audience.
