Trillium is advancing the capabilities of the U.S. Army through innovative imaging technology integrated into small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS).
In military operations, the ability to gather timely and precise intelligence can significantly influence the outcome of missions.
The HD45 payload developed by Trillium plays a vital role in bolstering the Army’s reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition (RSTA) functions. It is indeed currently being tested on four of the six platforms involved in the company-level sUAS Directed Requirement evaluations. Designed specifically for sUAS missions, the HD45 combines high-definition optics with exceptional stabilization features. This system delivers clear, actionable intelligence across various environments, equipping soldiers with high-quality imagery and accurate location data to improve situational awareness and decision-making in the field.
With its high-definition imaging and advanced stabilization, the HD45 is essential for successful reconnaissance and surveillance operations. Its lightweight yet durable design is comparable to the HD40 while offering the superior imaging capabilities of the HD55. This elegant, all-in-one imaging solution adheres to the Modular Open System Approach (MOSA), facilitating quicker integration across different platforms. It includes embedded video processing with electronic stabilization and scene tracking, as well as an onboard global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation System that ensures real-time target location accuracy within six meters. Additionally, it supports both day and night operations through its integrated visible and thermal cameras.
Aligning with the Army’s Future Needs
In 2023, the Army Futures Command identified the necessity for improved intelligence capabilities and sanctioned a Directed Requirement for a Company-Level sUAS.
This initiative is designed to provide an initial capability for the Army’s maneuver battalions and to shape requirements for future developments.
Essential requirements include:
- Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) systems
- Vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities
- Weight under 55 pounds
- Operational flight duration of eight hours within a 24-hour cycle
funding is allocated for the initial acquisition, integration, and operational deployment of the sUAS, thereby enhancing situational awareness and overall operational effectiveness.
Enhancing the Army’s UAS and RSTA Capabilities through Strategic Partnerships
Trillium Engineering has collaborated with several leading platforms in the U.S.Army’s initiative to enhance RSTA capabilities. As outlined in the Joint Small Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Capability Development Document, the Army intends to deploy short-range reconnaissance (SRR), medium-range reconnaissance (MRR), and long-range reconnaissance (LRR) UAS at the platoon, company, and battalion levels, respectively.
Trillium is dedicated to supporting the Army’s vision by providing reliable, high-performance imaging solutions and is eager to contribute significantly to the enhancement of the Army’s tactical UAS operations.
