metron Inc. has entered into a strategic partnership with Cellula Robotics, USA Inc., aimed at enhancing the capabilities of uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs) for sophisticated operations in challenging environments.
This collaboration will harness the strengths of both organizations to tackle specific technical challenges within the UUV defense and offshore energy sectors, notably for extended, multi-payload missions where communication might potentially be limited or unavailable.
Through this partnership, Metron’s Resilient Mission Autonomy™ suite will be integrated into Cellula’s Solus and Imotus series of marine vehicles, providing AI-driven situational awareness and enabling real-time mission adjustments, rerouting, and replanning, all while managing multiple payloads and allowing for flexible ship or port-to-port operations.
Cellula’s Solus-LR and Solus-XR platforms, the latter boasting an operational range exceeding 5,000 kilometers, will incorporate advanced hydrogen fuel cell technology, facilitating enduring, long-duration missions with zero carbon emissions.
This collaboration aims to create a scalable UUV solution featuring a reconfigurable vehicle design that minimizes risk, cuts costs, and enhances mission flexibility and efficiency, catering to the needs of the U.S. Defense, offshore energy, subsea telecommunications, and marine scientific research sectors.
As both surface and underwater operations evolve, government entities and private companies are eager to accelerate the development of uncrewed platforms capable of operating independently or collaboratively to efficiently cover larger areas, particularly in commercial surveys and extended-duration environments.
In this partnership, Metron and Cellula will actively promote their joint solutions to national security stakeholders and commercial offshore energy clients. Furthermore, both organizations will engage in the advancement of offshore energy inspection and survey technologies, enhancing operational planning, execution, and data delivery across the entire offshore supply chain.
The integrated solution will facilitate the collection of high-value data, with quality assurance measures in place, and will allow for mission planning adjustments on-site to influence vehicle operations, all while adhering to a zero-emissions commitment.
The companies are working to commercialize systems with extended operational endurance, capable of supporting multiple weeks at sea, both above and below the surface, while minimizing risks and lowering costs.
“this strategic partnership marks a notable step forward in leveraging the expertise of Metron and Cellula to push the boundaries of long-duration, multi-payload subsea capabilities,” stated Van Gurley, CEO of Metron. “We are excited to collaborate with Cellula to deliver groundbreaking innovations that will enhance capabilities and impact for U.S. Defense and commercial clients.”
Neil Manning,CEO of Cellula Robotics,USA,remarked; “This collaboration embodies a mutual commitment to utilize our expertise in hardware, software, and fuel cell technologies to broaden UUV missions for dynamic and extended operations.”
“The combined knowledge base of Cellula and Metron brings decades of real-world experience to address many challenges faced in harsh subsea environments, reaffirming the vital role the industry plays in delivering innovative solutions for the evolving landscape of surface and subsea maritime missions.”
