Increased Investment in UAS Battery Technology
Packet Digital has secured an extended contract from the U.S. Navy to further advance its smart battery and charging systems for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
Background of the contract
This new agreement follows an earlier $8.5 million contract awarded to Packet Digital in December 2022,aimed at developing a standardized battery solution for the Navy’s UAS fleet, which is essential for both ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore operations.
Thorough Power Solutions
Packet Digital’s innovative approach combines high-efficiency batteries with secure, portable storage solutions and advanced fleet management software, creating a holistic power system for autonomous maritime operations.
Manufacturing Expansion
As part of this latest contract, Packet Digital will enhance its production capabilities at its Fargo facility, where it previously designed lithium-ion smart battery packs. The company is set to scale up manufacturing to meet the growing demands of the Navy.
Advanced Manufacturing Techniques
Utilizing cutting-edge surface mount technology (SMT), automated laser welding, and resistance welding equipment, Packet Digital is well-equipped to produce large quantities of smart battery packs for some of the most elegant UAS technologies available today.
Safety and Reliability in Design
Beyond battery production, Packet Digital is also developing advanced charging systems, storage containers, and racks to ensure the safe and secure storage of these products on Navy vessels. The company has conducted extensive testing on its storage solutions to guarantee optimal thermal and ventilation conditions, even in extreme scenarios.
fleet Management Software
Packet Digital’s fleet management software is designed to optimize the performance of power systems. This software allows users to efficiently monitor each battery and charging unit, providing real-time insights into charging status, temperature, lifecycle diagnostics, and more.
