SwissDrones Achieves Milestone with First BVLOS Powerline Inspection in Belgium
SwissDrones has successfully executed its inaugural commercial BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) powerline inspection in Belgium utilizing the advanced SDO 50 V2 VTOL unmanned helicopter.
This significant flight spanned over 100 kilometers and lasted more than two hours, showcasing the capabilities of the drone in real-world conditions.
Versatile Applications of the SDO 50 V2
The SDO 50 V2 unmanned aerial system (UAS) is designed to conduct inspections of critical infrastructure and assets safely and efficiently, even in challenging weather conditions. Its versatility makes it ideal for various applications, including aerial inspections of oil and gas rigs, pipelines, wind farms, power lines, railways, and open-pit mining sites. This drone is notably valuable in scenarios where traditional manned operations may be impractical, hazardous, or prohibitively expensive.
Beyond Inspections: Additional Capabilities
Along with its inspection functions, the SDO 50 V2 is equipped for environmental monitoring, topographical surveys, and vegetation mapping. It can also detect exhaust emissions and assess nuclear radiation levels, further expanding its utility in diverse fields.
Future Endeavors
Looking ahead, SwissDrones has plans for similar missions in the fourth quarter of 2021, indicating a commitment to advancing drone technology in the inspection sector.
