Extensive Research Initiatives Since 2014
Since 2014, the EPA’s Great lakes National Programme Office (GLNPO) and the Office of research and Development (ORD) have actively employed Teledyne Slocum Gliders in over 20 missions across all five Great Lakes. These efforts have been instrumental in evaluating water quality trends and conditions, resulting in the collection of more than 60,000 data profiles across a vast network of glider transects that span over 7,200 kilometers (nearly 4,500 miles).
Enhancing Knowledge Through Data Sharing
By disseminating their findings, the EPA seeks to deepen the understanding of water quality trends in the Great Lakes, while also promoting future collaborative efforts among researchers and environmental organizations.
