Revolutionizing Safety: Cutting-Edge Collision Avoidance Technologies for USVs

Dynautics has announced that it has developed a new range of Collision Avoidance (CA) systems for unmanned surface vessels (USVs).

Dynautics has unveiled an innovative suite of Collision Avoidance (CA) systems tailored for unmanned surface vessels (USVs). With years of expertise in the unmanned marine vehicle sector, the company has previously established a standard external CA interface that allows Dynautics autopilots to seamlessly integrate with third-party sensing and avoidance technologies. This interface has been operational for a decade on high-speed surveillance crafts utilizing the Dynautics Spectre navigational control system, which collaborates with clients’ proprietary sensing devices to relay avoidance commands to the control system.

Collision Avoidance encompasses two distinct components: sensing and avoiding. The sensing aspect involves identifying and tracking obstacles through various sensors, including radar, electro-optical devices, and AIS data, which can often be cumbersome and costly.

Dynautics CA-0 represents an internal CA algorithm embedded within the SPECTRE Autopilot module. It processes obstacle data transmitted to the USV via a command and control datalink, incorporating both pre-set fixed obstacles and target data sourced from area surveillance radars.

Dynautics CA-1,also integrated within the SPECTRE Autopilot module, leverages AIS data for its sensing capabilities. This compact system has proven effective in open ocean environments, particularly with slow-moving, wave-powered vessels.

Dynautics CA-2 functions as an external CA avoidance module. Its sensing capabilities are enhanced through an interface with Navico 4G FMCW Radar equipped with MARPA.dynautics provides the unlocked Radome, a MARPA system specifically configured for USVs, along with the necessary interfaces to the Spectre autopilot. This system can be further enhanced with additional sensors, such as AIS and electro-optical devices.
