Alpha Unmanned Systems Showcases UAV Capabilities at RONCAOR 2016
Alpha Unmanned Systems, a leader in the production of compact helicopter UAVs, recently highlighted its involvement in the “RONCAOR 2016” training exercise organized by the Maritime Rescue Society.
Overview of RONCAOR 2016
Taking place in February at the Juan Montiel fishing port and marina in Cartagena, “RONCAOR 2016” was designed to replicate a genuine emergency search and rescue scenario at sea. The exercise began when the emergency operations center received a distress call from an individual in the water, providing approximate coordinates for their location. utilizing this data, a search pattern was established, factoring in tidal movements, wind direction, and wind speed.
UAV Deployment and Rescue Operation
At 11:40 AM, SASEMAR (Maritime Security and Rescue Society) confirmed the designated search area. By 12:05 PM, the captain of the rescue vessel authorized the launch of the SNIPER UAV. Remarkably, within just 18 minutes of initiating the operation, the SNIPER UAV successfully located the individual in distress and relayed precise coordinates back to SASEMAR’s control center, enabling the dispatch of a rescue boat. The UAV returned to the ship platform at 12:28 PM, coinciding with the speedboat’s recovery of the castaway.
Significance of UAVs in Maritime Operations
This exercise underscores the effectiveness and practicality of UAVs in maritime search and rescue missions. Their rapid deployment capabilities considerably enhance response times, making them invaluable in emergency situations.
Versatile Payload Options of the SNIPER VTOL UAV
The SNIPER VTOL UAV is equipped to handle various payloads, thereby increasing the likelihood of mission success. Its capabilities include:
- Daylight imaging
- Low-light surveillance
- Night vision and infrared capabilities
