MostaTech has announced that two models from its range of miniature fiber optic gyro (FOG) inertial measurement units (IMUs) have undergone further miniaturization, driven by the increasing demand for SWaP-optimized inertial solutions in unmanned systems.
The U183 FOG IMU has been reduced in size to ∅46×100 mm, down from its previous dimensions of ∅46×111 mm. similarly, the U123D has shrunk to ∅40×90 mm from ∅40×100 mm.
These size reductions significantly enhance their applicability in environments with strict spatial and layout requirements, such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs), Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs), and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs).
Moreover, notable improvements have been achieved in magnetic immunity, which boosts the precision of both FOG IMUs. Previously, users could opt for either external or internal magnetic shielding for the U123D and U183 models.
The latest iterations now come with a combination of internal and external shielding, providing two levels of magnetic response: 0.3°/h/Gauss with single shielding and an impressive 0.01°/h/Gauss with double shielding.
This enhanced design guarantees extraordinary performance even in environments characterized by extremely high magnetic fields.
The U Series FOG IMUs are designed for low-noise operation, compactness, lightweight construction, and minimal energy consumption. Each unit integrates three of MostaTech’s smallest fiber optic gyros alongside three MEMS/pendulum accelerometers.
