amprius Technologies Launches Cutting-Edge SiCore® Battery Cells for Tactical Drones
Amprius Technologies, Inc. has successfully supplied its innovative SiCore® battery cells to a variety of advanced drone and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) clients from its pilot production line in Fremont, California.
High-Energy Solutions for Tactical Missions
Among the notable recipients are Airbus subsidiary AALTO, which has received 450 Wh/kg high-energy battery cells, alongside other drone manufacturers that require a balance of energy and power for both tactical and commercial operations.
Streamlined Transition from Development to Deployment
The qualification process for Amprius customers typically initiates with prototype SiCore® cells produced at the Fremont facility, facilitating a swift transition from development to operational deployment for advanced applications. Recent shipments to AALTO and other UAV leaders are specifically designed for high-altitude and tactical missions, with the newly delivered 450 Wh/kg SiCore® cells optimized for extended flight durations, where energy density and weight are critical factors.
Research and Development Hub
Amprius’ headquarters in Fremont serves as the epicenter for research and development, prototyping, and pilot-scale production, where the SiCore® platform was conceived, validated, and transitioned into commercial use. This team was also responsible for the creation of the SiCore® 370 Wh/kg High Power cell, which offers outstanding energy and power performance in a compact, mission-ready design.
Leadership Insights
Dr. Kang Sun, CEO of Amprius Technologies, remarked, “We are ramping up our pilot production in Fremont to accommodate the rising demand from top drone manufacturers. The shipment of our leading SiCore® cells to AALTO and other prominent drone OEMs signifies a critically important milestone in our journey toward commercial scalability. From high-energy HAPS cells to balanced-performance drone batteries, we are now providing solutions that cater to a diverse array of advanced mission requirements.”
Pierre-Antoine Aubourg, Chief Technology Officer at AALTO, emphasized, “Amprius’ SiCore® cells mark a significant leap in energy performance, fulfilling the ultra-lightweight and long-endurance needs of our high-altitude operations.Thier silicon anode technology has already allowed Zephyr to maintain stratospheric operations overnight for extended periods, achieving an unprecedented milestone in persistent flight. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with Amprius as we qualify their next-generation cells to drive the future of Stratospace innovation.”
Scaling Global Supply Chain
While the Fremont facility enables rapid development and initial production, Amprius is also expanding its global supply chain to meet the increasing commercial demand. The company has secured over 1.8 GWh of manufacturing capacity through international partnerships, including a strategic agreement in South Korea, to facilitate broader adoption across aerospace, defense, and electric mobility sectors.
