SwissDrones SDO 50 V2 Achieves Milestone in Canada’s BVLOS Operations
The SwissDrones SDO 50 V2 has marked a significant achievement by successfully conducting BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) flights in Canada. This initiative was orchestrated by SAIT in partnership with earthscan.

First BVLOS Permit Granted in Canada
SAIT’s center for Innovation & Research in Unmanned Systems (CIRUS) has received the inaugural BVLOS permit from Transport canada, paving the way for advanced drone operations in the region.
Collaboration for Enhanced Capabilities
SwissDrones has expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for their efforts in facilitating the introduction of long-range autonomous applications within the Canadian market.
In a notable collaboration, SAIT, EarthScan, and SwissDrones have successfully integrated a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) system with the SDO 50 V2. Initial test flights have yielded promising results, demonstrating rapid and accurate data collection and analysis for various applications, including hydrological studies, archaeological investigations, and the detection of underground utilities and abandoned mines.
