Introducing Advanced GPS Anti-Jam Technology for Marine Applications
Hexagon | NovAtel has unveiled its latest innovation in GPS Anti-Jam Technology (GAJT), specifically designed for both commercial and defense sectors within the marine industry. The GAJT-410MS is a compact, low-SWaP (size, weight, and power) device that safeguards unmanned surface vessels (USVs) against interference and jamming, featuring advanced jammer direction-finding capabilities to enhance situational awareness in maritime settings.
The Impact of Interference on Marine Operations
Both intentional and unintentional interference pose significant risks to civilian and military maritime operations. Commercial shipping, for instance, faces threats that compromise navigation and cybersecurity. In the absence of reliable positioning, vessels may veer off their intended routes. Similarly, nearshore activities such as surveying and construction demand dependable positioning to maintain seamless operations in congested waterways and complex RF environments. The GAJT-410MS offers a robust solution for interference mitigation and jammer direction-finding, ensuring users can achieve assured positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) while effectively identifying and managing interference risks.
Extensive Protection Across Multiple Bands
The GAJT-410MS delivers dynamic protection across various frequency bands, including GPS L1 and L2, Galileo E1, QZSS L1 and L2, and SBAS L1, effectively countering both intentional and accidental interference. In the event of jamming, the device’s direction-finding capabilities enhance situational awareness, allowing users to pinpoint the origin of jamming signals. This commercially available, non-ITAR solution is straightforward to install or retrofit onto existing USV fleets, ensuring continuous operations, cybersecurity, and safe navigation on the water.
Expert Insights on the Importance of Assured Navigation
Dr. David Russell, the marine segment portfolio manager for Hexagon’s Autonomy & Positioning division, emphasized the growing importance of assured navigation and cybersecurity for marine users amid rising global threats from interference and jamming. He stated, “the GAJT-410MS serves as a vital anti-jam solution, shielding vessels from disruptions caused by interference and jamming, thereby ensuring uninterrupted operations irrespective of the request. With GAJT, your positioning, navigation, and timing are not only protected but also guaranteed.”
