TEKEVER’s AR5 Drone Successfully Deploys Lifeboat in Rescue Operation
TEKEVER has announced the prosperous launch of a lifeboat from its AR5 drone during a search and rescue operation organized by the Italian Coast Guard in collaboration with the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).
Advanced Technology for Enhanced Safety
This innovative drone operates autonomously, utilizing onboard sensors to identify vessels or individuals in distress on the water. by leveraging artificial intelligence, the AR5 drone determines the ideal moment to deploy the lifeboat, ensuring it is released at a safe yet effective distance from the target, all without human oversight.
The system is designed to adapt to varying weather conditions and adhere to flight plan limitations, making it versatile for diverse operational scenarios.
Impact on Maritime Safety
In addition to its capability to locate individuals in peril, this technology plays a crucial role in search and rescue operations aimed at enhancing maritime safety. According to recent statistics from EMSA, EU member states report approximately 2,500 maritime incidents and casualties annually (EMSA, October 2023).
Collaboration for Effective Surveillance
As 2016, CLS and TEKEVER have joined forces to deliver drone-based maritime surveillance solutions to EMSA. This cost-effective service is beneficial for all EU member nations and has demonstrated its effectiveness with nearly 2,000 flight hours and around 300 missions completed across Portugal, Italy, Spain, France, and the UK.
The partnership combines over 30 years of expertise in data acquisition, processing, and analysis within the maritime domain, alongside nearly a decade of experience in remotely piloted aircraft systems, establishing a unique European civil expertise.
Equipped for Success
The AR5 drone is outfitted with advanced optical and infrared cameras, maritime radar, an AIS receiver, and an emergency position-indicating radio beacon antenna, making it an ideal choice for Search & Rescue and Maritime Surveillance operations.
Commitment to Excellence
TEKEVER provides Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) technology and services to some of the most esteemed institutions globally, including the UK’s Home Office and various European space and Maritime Safety Agencies.
In response to this achievement, TEKEVER’s CEO, Ricardo Mendes, remarked, “This successful exhibition by a leading maritime safety agency is a remarkable validation of TEKEVER’s state-of-the-art technology. We are eager to continue our collaboration with EMSA to enhance the monitoring of European waters and ultimately save lives.”
