Textron Systems Launches Innovative TSUNAMI Autonomous Vessels

Textron Systems Corporation,a subsidiary of Textron Inc., has introduced the TSUNAMI series of autonomous maritime surface vessels.

Meeting Defense Needs with Versatile Solutions

Designed to fulfill the operational demands of the U.S.Department of Defense and its allies, the TSUNAMI fleet comprises versatile, multi-mission uncrewed surface vehicles that integrate seamlessly into naval operations. This innovative line offers a cost-effective and quickly deployable solution, drawing on Textron Systems’ extensive four-decade experience in multi-domain autonomous vehicles and the advanced manufacturing capabilities of the U.S. commercial shipbuilding industry.

Specifications and Capabilities

Powered by gasoline for logistical ease, cost-effectiveness, and straightforward upkeep, the TSUNAMI vessels boast a payload capacity of 1,000 pounds (approximately 453.6 kilograms). The current lineup includes hulls measuring 24, 25, and 28 feet, all of which are in large-scale production. These vessels can operate in Sea State 4 conditions, with operational ranges extending from 600 to over 1,000 nautical miles. The platform is also designed for scalability, allowing for the introduction of new vessel sizes and configurations to enhance production capabilities.

Advanced Features for Enhanced Operations

The TSUNAMI vessels come equipped with essential technologies, including electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) cameras, maritime radar, and both line-of-sight (LOS) and beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) interaction systems. Thay are compatible with the Unmanned Maritime Autonomy Architecture (UMAA) and utilize a proven autonomy system developed through Department of Defense programs.

Expert Insights on Autonomous Systems

David Phillips, Senior Vice president of Air, Land, and Sea Systems, stated, “Textron Systems possesses a unique capability to design, integrate, deploy, and support autonomous systems across air, land, and sea domains, as we have a proven track record in this area.”

“By merging this expertise with the demonstrated capabilities and affordability of Brunswick’s commercial shipbuilding, we can deliver robust maritime force strength to our DoD and allied customers swiftly and at scale.”
