PDW C100: A Leap in Precision Targeting for the UK MOD
Performance Drone Works (PDW) showcased the capabilities of its C100 quadcopter in a live-fire exhibition for the UK Ministry of Defense (MOD) at the 9 Mile Testing Center in texas.
Advanced Target Designation with Cutting-Edge Technology
The C100, integrated with the Leonardo DRS STAG™ 5 laser target designator (LTD), effectively tracked and marked targets for ground-launched APKWS 2.75” rockets, achieving pinpoint accuracy within designated areas. This exercise confirmed the UAV’s role in enhancing precision fire support while maintaining a discreet visual and acoustic profile.
Long-Range Operational Testing
in addition to the LTD assessments, PDW executed a long-range mission utilizing the C100 equipped with the NextVision DragonEye2 EO/IR payload. The drone successfully maintained command, control, and live video feeds over distances surpassing 8.5 kilometers.
This operation underscored the platform’s extended range, endurance, and dependability in challenging environments. The C100 was tested in various configurations, employing both LTD and non-LTD payloads, showcasing its modular design and versatility for multiple missions.
Funding and Objectives of the Project
This initiative was financed by the UK MOD to explore innovative technologies aimed at enhancing the precision and responsiveness of target designation systems. PDW’s goal was to validate the C100’s capability to direct precision munitions under realistic operational conditions.
Transforming Target Acquisition
the successful trials demonstrated that the C100 can autonomously acquire targets at scale, eliminating the need for manned aircraft or forward observers. By broadening the scope of organic targeting and minimizing risks to personnel, the C100 equips commanders with a dependable asset to improve the effectiveness and pace of long-range precision strike operations across various domains.
Commitment to Technological Advancement
“PDW is dedicated to evolving technology in line with the demands of modern warfare, and we look forward to collaborating with both domestic and international partners to deliver state-of-the-art capabilities for mission success,” stated Ryan Gury, co-founder and CEO of PDW.
