WISPR Systems Unveils the Exciting Features of the Ranger Pro Series!

Leading manufacturer of the Ranger Pro Series WISPR Systems talks to UnmannedSystemsTechnology.com (UST) about the challenges in designing

The leading producer of the Ranger Pro Series WISPR Systems shares insights with UnmannedSystemsTechnology.com (UST) regarding the complexities involved in creating an EMI-resistant industrial drone, capable of navigating volcanic terrains, enduring winds exceeding 35 mph, and operating in extreme heat conditions of up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

WISPR System’s American-manufactured multirotor drones are tailored for rigorous commercial tasks. Can you elaborate on the primary challenges encountered while developing the Ranger Pro 1100?

The development of the Ranger Pro 1100 involved numerous challenges, including stability, weight, dimensions, portability, vibration control, power management, payload capacity, flight duration, durability, and reliability. A critically important hurdle was addressing electromagnetic interference (EMI) during the prototyping stage, which required innovative solutions to shield sensitive components.

The subsequent production phase demanded meticulous attention to ensure that the final product consistently matched the prototype while adhering to stringent quality assurance protocols, making this one of the most formidable challenges. Additionally, ongoing software maintenance and enhancements, along with user accessibility, will remain a priority as we move forward.

Notably beneficial for aerial mapping, surveying, and inspections, can you share any examples of the Ranger Pro 1100 being utilized in demanding industrial scenarios?

we have clients successfully operating over volcanoes and in regions with significant magnetic fields without any issues, despite previous drones crashing due to EMI complications. Our drones feature integrated aircraft-grade shielding that effectively absorbs and mitigates magnetic interference, unlike other methods that fail to manage EMI effectively, allowing our drones to excel in these environments.

Our advanced cooling systems and temperature fail-safes ensure the drone remains operational in extreme conditions, whether excessively hot or cold. As an example, clients in Arizona are conducting 300–500-acre operations in temperatures reaching 110 degrees without any difficulties. We have tested the drone in temperatures as low as -6 degrees, and we believe it would perform well in even colder climates.

One of the standout features of the Ranger Pro is its ability to operate in high-wind conditions. A mining client regularly flies our Ranger Pro in winds exceeding 35 mph, a feat their previous drone could not manage in winds above 20 mph. This capability allows them to increase their flight frequency and make quicker operational decisions.

Along with its portability, the Ranger Pro 1100 is recognized for its reliability in harsh commercial settings while carrying valuable technical payloads. Can you elaborate on how you have achieved this level of durability and the fail-safes implemented to protect both the drone and its payload?

the durability of the Ranger Pro begins with its modular and well-thought-out hardware design. The drone’s frame is constructed from a combination of carbon fiber and aluminum, providing a lightweight yet robust platform.

EMI shielding is a crucial aspect of protecting industrial drones, as EMI can arise from various sources that our drones are designed to inspect, including:

  • Power lines
  • Metal-rich areas
  • Concrete structures with rebar
  • Mountainous terrains
  • Regions with high iron ore concentrations
  • Transmission towers
  • Broadcast towers

The fail-safes we have integrated are instrumental in managing battery performance and heat levels in critical electronics. At WISPR,safety is paramount, not only to safeguard valuable payloads but also to ensure the well-being of our customers.

What is the future outlook for WISPR Systems in 2023 and beyond?

WISPR Systems is committed to continuous evolution and innovation. We are actively engaging with the regulatory landscape surrounding unmanned aerial systems in the United states, aiming to stay ahead of emerging regulations and seize new market opportunities as they arise.
