In a groundbreaking initiative, Dynautics partnered with HydroSurv and Sonardyne International to showcase advanced unmanned operations over extended distances using a hybrid-powered vessel.

Successful Trials of the REAV-60 Unmanned Surface Vehicle

The HydroSurv’s REAV-60 Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV), known as USV Decibel, achieved a notable milestone by completing its inaugural sea trials for Sonardyne at Smart Sound Plymouth, UK, in early May 2022. This event marked a pivotal moment for all collaborators involved in the project.

Reliable Propulsion Through Hybrid Technology

To ensure dependable and continuous over-the-horizon capabilities, the project identified a hybrid propulsion system that combines a Fischer panda generator with a battery pack as the most effective solution.

Power Management Optimization for Environmental Compliance

Enhancing the power management system was crucial for enabling the REAV-60 to function in clean air zones. This required the vessel to enter these areas with fully charged batteries, allowing for zero-emission operations.

Advanced Control Systems Developed by Dynautics

Dynautics engineered an interface that facilitated interaction between the vessel’s dual electric motors while also monitoring the battery bank and generator. The team implemented various control modes through an algorithm that adjusted generator operations based on specific mission needs.

Readiness Through Thorough Simulation Testing

Before the sea trials in Plymouth, the Dynautics team conducted extensive simulation testing, which laid a solid foundation for a successful operational day on the water.
