Persistent Systems Unveils the Personal transport 5 for Enhanced Connectivity
Persistent Systems, LLC has launched the Personal Transport 5 (PT5), a cutting-edge accessory designed for the handheld MPU5 MANET networking device, aimed at providing robust 5G Cellular and Wi-Fi 6e connectivity for dismounted soldiers.
Dual-Functionality for Seamless Connectivity
The PT5 serves a dual purpose, directly linking to the MPU5 to offer simultaneous access to both 5G Cellular and Wi-Fi networks. This lightweight device ensures that military personnel can connect securely to host-nation 5G infrastructures, thereby maintaining global communication capabilities. It is indeed engineered to support Persistent’s innovative Cloud Relay™ networking technology, allowing soldiers to integrate into a worldwide communication network that guarantees uninterrupted connectivity during operations.
Enhanced Security Features
Equipped with two distinct layers of accredited encryption, the PT5 ensures that data remains secure while traversing foreign cellular networks. The Cloud Relay™ technology further bolsters security by automating the establishment of Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) VPNs, providing end-to-end protection through Media Access Control Security (macsec). This allows warfighters to communicate with confidence, even in challenging operational environments.
Wi-Fi 6e Access Points for Improved device Connectivity
The PT5 also features two Wi-Fi 6e access points, creating a personal area network for soldiers. This simplifies the connection of various third-party devices, including computers, sensors, and cameras. Operating on two frequency bands simultaneously, the access points ensure compatibility with older 2.4 GHz devices while maximizing performance for modern 5 GHz and 6 GHz Wi-Fi 6e devices.
Addressing Modern Communication Challenges
Tom Hanlon,Vice President of International Sales, stated,“In the face of electronic warfare tactics employed by near-peer adversaries, soldiers are navigating a crowded and contested spectrum. They need multiple communication pathways, including MANET, Cellular, and Satellite options, to maintain continuous connectivity. The PT5 not only introduces an additional communication route but does so in a compact design that minimizes the size, weight, and power demands on the warfighter.”
“The influx of new devices for soldiers has led to an increase in the number of cables and USB hubs needed for connectivity. the PT5 utilizes Wi-fi 6e technology to reduce cable clutter and minimize snag hazards while ensuring optimal performance.”
Accomplished Trials and Positive Feedback
Persistent Systems has conducted trials of pre-production PT5 units with U.S. Army Special Operations and the Department of energy, receiving encouraging feedback from users.
Hanlon added, “The response from dismounted users has been overwhelmingly positive. They value the global transport capabilities of the 5G modem and appreciate the reduction of clutter in their gear thanks to the Wi-Fi access points.”
