At this year’s AUVSI XPONENTIAL, scheduled from May 8-11 at the colorado Convention Center in denver, Silicon Sensing will spotlight the evolving performance needs of next-generation unmanned platforms across air, land, and sea.
David Somerville, the General Manager of Silicon Sensing, remarked, “The unmanned sector is driven by the need to minimize platform size while enhancing operational versatility and duration. To meet these objectives, suppliers like Silicon Sensing must provide systems and sensors that are not only smaller and lighter but also deliver exceptional precision with minimal power requirements.”
In critical performance metrics such as bias instability and angle random walk, Silicon Sensing’s latest inertial products are already achieving results comparable to larger, heavier, and more expensive Fiber Optic Gyroscope (FOG)-based systems. The next generation of inertial technology is currently in advanced stages of growth, aiming to surpass the performance expectations of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) while further reducing size, weight, and power consumption.
Somerville added,“At XPONENTIAL,we are eager to engage with manufacturers and operators from various sectors, including maritime, aerospace, space, defense, industrial robotics, agriculture, and transportation. Our discussions will not only focus on current needs but also explore future directions, identifying how our upcoming devices can enhance the autonomous platforms of tomorrow.”
Highlighted products at XPONENTIAL will include:
- DMU41 – A tactical-grade Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) featuring 9 degrees of Freedom (DoF) and leading bias instability performance. This model is approximately 50% smaller and lighter than its predecessor, with considerably reduced power consumption, making it a direct competitor to FOG-based IMUs.
- CRH03 – A new, compact, and durable standalone gyro that maintains exceptional stability over time and varying temperatures. It is available in both housed and OEM configurations, providing a cost-effective option to FOG-based solutions.
- Gemini – A series of high-performance accelerometers that offer precise dual-axis linear acceleration measurements in a compact, surface-mounted design.
- Pinpoint – Measuring approximately 5mm x 6mm, this gyro is the most triumphant product in Silicon Sensing’s lineup. It is indeed available in both flat and orthogonal mounts and is widely utilized across a diverse range of applications.
- CMS300 – A robust MEMS gyro combined with a dual-axis accelerometer, known for its superior bias and noise performance across temperature variations. This low-power sensor is ideal for motion sensing applications, including navigation, leveling, robotics, measurement, and control, as well as for integration into IMUs, AHRS, and inclinometers.
- DMU11 – The DMU11 is an affordable, rugged, and lightweight 6-DoF MEMS IMU that delivers high performance for mass-market applications. It provides extensive motion sensing in three-dimensional space, with calibration across its entire rated temperature range.
