Exail Partners with Bedrock for Advanced AUV Navigation
Exail has successfully completed its inaugural sale of the Phins 9 Compact Inertial Navigation System (INS) to Bedrock.
Enhancing Underwater Navigation
The Phins 9 Compact INS will be incorporated into Bedrock’s latest autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), representing a major leap forward in navigational precision and operational effectiveness.
Specifications of Bedrock’s AUV
Bedrock’s AUV is a specialized, modular system designed for rapid deployment in geophysical exploration and monitoring tasks. It features advanced tools such as a Multibeam Echosounder (MBES),Side Scan Sonar (SSS),and Magnetometer (MAG). This AUV is rated for depths of up to 300 meters and can operate for 12 hours while surveying at a speed of 3 knots with all systems active.
Benefits of the Phins 9 compact INS
Exail asserts that the integration of the Phins 9 Compact INS will enable Bedrock to enhance navigational accuracy, improve operational efficiencies, and reduce Total Horizontal Uncertainty (THU) and Total Vertical Uncertainty (TVU).
Compact design and Performance
With dimensions of 88.9 x 130 mm, the Phins 9 Compact is recognized as the most compact high-performance INS available today. It operates with a power consumption of under 7 W and offers DVL-aided position accuracy of 0.1% TD, ensuring exceptional reliability and navigation precision for compact subsea vehicles in challenging environments with minimal power needs.
Insights from Bedrock’s Leadership
“The INS was crucial in tackling uncertainties and performance hurdles for our AUV. We needed an INS solution that could meet our demands for form factor, power efficiency, support, compactness, accuracy, and overall performance, and Exail’s Phins 9 Compact INS perfectly fits these criteria,” stated Charles Chiau, CTO and Co-Founder of Bedrock. “We are excited to see how this INS performs during sea trials and its potential to enhance our AUV’s navigational capabilities.”
Exail’s Perspective on the Collaboration
“We are excited to collaborate with Bedrock on this innovative project. The integration of our Phins 9 Compact INS into Bedrock’s AUV showcases the commitment to innovation and precision that both companies share,” remarked Shayan haque,Sales Manager at Exail.“We anticipate the accomplished deployment of our technology and the positive influence it will have on Bedrock’s geophysical survey operations.”
Shared Vision and Collaboration
Bedrock’s choice to adopt Exail’s INS stemmed from the alignment of engineering support with Bedrock’s operational philosophy. The shared commitment to quality and the collaborative efforts of both teams facilitated a smooth integration process.
Looking Ahead
Exail emphasizes that the partnership with Bedrock reflects a mutual vision of improving ocean accessibility with a focus on precision and accuracy.
