Hawkeye MMP: A Breakthrough in Electromagnetic Compatibility

The Hawkeye MMP surveillance system from Chess Dynamics has successfully showcased its electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) capabilities.

Collaboration with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency

This achievement is part of the Observation Targeting and Surveillance Systems (OTAS) initiative led by the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA).

Meeting Rigorous Battlefield Standards

In alignment with the NDMA’s stringent criteria, the hawkeye MMP has proven its capacity to function effectively in the modern battlefield, ensuring reliable dialog and operation even in challenging electromagnetic environments.

Extensive Testing Protocols

The NDMA’s requirements encompassed standard EMC evaluations,including MIL-STD461,and specifically addressed the Nuclear Electro Magnetic Pulse (NEMP). Additionally,tailored specifications were established to guarantee compatibility with the vehicle’s existing high frequency (HF),very high frequency (VHF),and ultra-high frequency (UHF) radio systems,all while avoiding internal frequency conflicts.

Innovative multi-stage Testing Approach

Chess Dynamics implemented a multi-faceted testing strategy that involved board-level assessments, compliance with UK EMC standards, and thorough evaluations of the complete vehicle system. They also engineered innovative modular solutions that successfully passed NEMP testing on the first attempt. Throughout this process, collaboration with the NDMA ensured that all requirements were met without compromising environmental and usability considerations.

Expert Insights on Battlefield Demands

Chris Henderson, the Electronics Group Leader at Chess Dynamics, remarked, “Today’s battlefield presents increasingly intricate challenges that necessitate flexible, high-performance solutions. The NDMA sought technology that adhered to its rigorous EMC standards, and we are proud to have achieved this.
