Elsight, a prominent name in connectivity solutions for unmanned and autonomous systems, has launched DroneCommX™, an aftermarket enhancement kit aimed at boosting the functionality and security of DJI’s matrice 30 and 350 drones.
DroneCommX™ empowers first responders with improved crisis management strategies, enhances data security by rerouting communications, and facilitates non-line-of-sight (NLOS) operations. these drones, already integral to public safety, law enforcement, emergency response, and various commercial sectors, now possess even more advanced capabilities thanks to the DroneCommX™ upgrade.
With DroneCommX, users can significantly expand the operational potential of DJI drones while addressing existing challenges. Notably, commanders and essential personnel can access and analyze data and video captured by the drone from a remote command center, rather than relying solely on the drone pilot’s remote-control interface.
All communications are redirected through DroneCommX’s multi-link LTE connectivity solution, effectively bypassing DJI’s P2P system for enhanced data security. furthermore, DroneCommX enables DJI drones to conduct non-line-of-sight (NLOS) missions.
“These two DJI Matrice models are extensively utilized by law enforcement and first responder teams worldwide for valid reasons,” stated Yoav Amitai, CEO of Elsight. “However, some advantages may be overshadowed by certain limitations, prompting Elsight to create DroneCommX, which reroutes communications for improved security and facilitates NLOS operations.”
“Our collaboration with various first responder organizations has shown us that these teams could operate their DJI drone fleets more effectively from their headquarters or a mobile command unit, rather than using handheld remote controls. This broader perspective allows commanders and first responders to make more informed tactical decisions based on complete data and live video streamed from all drones,” Amitai added.
Key Features of DroneCommX Include:
- Secure and robust multi-link bonded LTE communications: An aggregated bonded link of four LTE modems utilizing M-TLS and AES-256 encryption, replacing the standard 2.4GHz communication of DJI.
- resistance to jamming: The connectivity relies on proprietary aggregated multi-link LTE technology, significantly minimizing the risk of losing communication links due to jamming attacks.
- Enhanced planning and automation: DroneCommX is equipped with industry-leading flight operations management software.
- NLOS (non-line-of-sight) connectivity: A fleet of drones can operate at remote, non-line-of-sight distances, controlled from a distant location without the need for human observers.
DroneCommX is built on Elsight’s proven Halo technology, a reliable multi-link communications system with over 250,000 flight hours recorded. The Halo system aggregates multiple IP links into a secure bond using both public and private cellular, satellite, and RF technologies, ensuring uninterrupted drone communications even in the most demanding environments.
Whether for disaster response, surveillance, deliveries, or extensive remote inspections, UAV (uncrewed aerial vehicle) operations powered by the Elsight Halo complete their missions with continuous high-bandwidth video and data transmission to the command-and-control center (C2).
