Each of the nine teams participating in the IAC will receive the VN-310 Dual Antenna GNSS/INS. This advanced system includes 3-axis gyroscopes, accelerometers, and magnetometers, along with dual GNSS receivers that facilitate GNSS-Compassing.The VN-310 delivers heading, pitch, and roll estimates with milliradian precision at frequencies of up to 400 Hz. Its GNSS receivers support RTK positioning, achieving centimeter-level accuracy in location estimation.

“We are excited to contribute to the IAC competition,” stated Jeremy Davis, Director of Engineering at VectorNav.“The IAC is at the forefront of enhancing autonomous vehicle technology, and we believe our inertial navigation systems will play a vital role in this endeavor, while also providing educational and entertaining experiences for audiences globally.”

Advancing Autonomous Vehicle Technology

Launched in 2019,the IAC aims to propel advancements in technology that can accelerate the commercialization of fully autonomous vehicles and the implementation of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS). By engaging collegiate engineering programs, the challenge investigates the potential of large-scale unmanned vehicle racing, while providing a platform for students to thrive in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields, inspiring future innovators.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with VectorNav as the GNSS/INS provider for the AV-21,” remarked Paul Mitchell, President of the Indy Autonomous Challenge. “Localization and state estimation are critical components of each team’s autonomy software. With VectorNav’s tactical-grade GNSS/INS systems, teams can execute complex maneuvers at high speeds. Moreover, VectorNav’s technical support has been exceptional, from initial integration to on-track request of their systems.”

Upcoming Competition Details

The next round of the IAC competition is scheduled for November 11, 2022, at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. VectorNav Technologies will be present to offer technical assistance to all participating IAC teams.
