Exploring the Versatile World of Common Unmanned Surface Vehicles

Introducing the Textron systems CUSV: A Game-Changer in Unmanned Maritime Operations

The Textron Systems Common Unmanned Surface Vehicle (CUSV) stands out as a reliable uncrewed maritime solution, substantially enhancing naval operations. This advanced vessel allows military personnel to engage in missions from a safe distance, making it the preferred choice for the U.S. Department of Defense’s inaugural small Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) program. The CUSV is integrated with a specialized variant of Textron’s command-and-control system, which has successfully supported Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) for over a million flight hours.

Designed for versatility, the CUSV can be deployed from various platforms, including ports, Littoral Combat Ships (LCS), and other vessels. It boasts cutting-edge autonomous features, such as advanced collision detection and hazard avoidance systems. The vessel’s modular payload bay can be swiftly reconfigured for a range of missions, including:

  • Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR)
  • Mine Countermeasures (MCM) – detecting and neutralizing mines
  • Expeditionary Warfare & Maritime Force Protection – locating and engaging distant targets
  • Port Security and Patrol Operations
  • Offensive Mine Deployment
  • Utilization of non-Lethal Weapons

The CUSV adheres to NATO Standardization Agreement (STANAG) 4586, the Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems (JAUS) protocol, and the dialog architecture of littoral Combat ships (LCS).
