Black Swift Technologies: A Leader in Uncrewed Systems Innovation

black Swift Technologies has been honored as one of the five recipients of the prestigious XCELLENCE Award by the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle systems International (AUVSI) in the category of Humanitarian adn Public Safety. The proclamation was made during the keynote address on April 28 at AUVSI XPONENTIAL 2022 in Orlando.

Celebrating 50 Years of Innovation

“As we commemorate AUVSI’s 50th anniversary, we reflect on the significant achievements within the uncrewed systems sector over the past five decades, while also envisioning the future,” stated Brian Wynne, President and CEO of AUVSI. “The 2022 XCELLENCE award recipients exemplify groundbreaking innovations and organizations that will contribute to our collective goal of reliable autonomy.”

Recognizing Commitment to Safety and Advancement

The AUVSI XCELLENCE Awards are designed to acknowledge those who have shown a steadfast dedication to enhancing autonomy, leading the safe integration of uncrewed systems, and creating initiatives that leverage these technologies to save lives and enhance human welfare.

“The recipients of the XCELLENCE award have shown extraordinary diligence in developing new health and safety applications for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS),” Wynne added. “These organizations illustrate that UAS are not only pivotal for commerce and economic growth but are also becoming essential tools for disaster response, emergency services, disease control, environmental monitoring, and other vital public health and safety challenges.”

Innovative Applications in Volcanic Monitoring

In September 2021, a collaborative effort between federal scientists and industry engineers advanced the monitoring of dangerous volcanoes by deploying a small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) over an active volcano in Alaska. This partnership, involving USGS, NASA, and Black Swift Technologies LLC, demonstrated that cost-effective UAVs equipped with advanced gas sensors and imaging technology can operate safely Beyond Visual Line-Of-Sight (BVLOS). This breakthrough paves the way for regular autonomous missions over hazardous volcanoes globally, enabling scientists to provide timely warnings to local communities and aviation sectors regarding potential threats.

Commitment to Excellence in Data Collection

“Black Swift Technologies is acknowledged for producing dependable, robust, and highly precise unmanned aircraft systems capable of collecting data in challenging environments,” remarked Jack Elston, CEO of black Swift. “Our team of leading experts is dedicated to developing innovative capabilities that expand the horizons of this technology. This recent initiative highlights our potential to not only conduct routine observations of remote volcanoes but also to cater to various commercial needs that require BVLOS operations.”
