Performance Drone Works (PDW), a prominent innovator in versatile small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS), has secured a $6.9 million contract from the Special Operations Forces Acquisitions, Technology and Logistics (SOF AT&L) office. This contract is for the provision of Blackwave, an advanced radio system engineered to function effectively in challenging and crowded RF environments.
“The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has highlighted the necessity for drone systems to operate successfully in environments where radio disruptions and unreliable GPS signals are commonplace,” stated ryan Gury, CEO of PDW.
Blackwave offers a secure, digital dialog link that is resilient against both purposeful and accidental interference. This technology enables essential communications and the control of small robotic systems in highly contested areas.
Having undergone rigorous testing by the Joint Vulnerability Assessment Branch (JVAB), Blackwave has demonstrated its reliability as a robust tactical wireless communication link.
“We are confident that Blackwave will revolutionize radio technology for American defense and small robotics, ushering in a new era of innovation,” remarked Trevor Smith, Chief strategy Officer at PDW.
The collaboration between PDW and USSOCOM underscores their dedication to advancing military technology by addressing challenges on the modern battlefield and equipping future soldiers with cutting-edge tools.
