In the case of a Brushless DC (BLDC) motor, excessive dust or sand accumulation in the coils can increase friction, thereby reducing efficiency. Additionally, prolonged exposure to water can erode the bearing grease, substantially shortening the motor’s lifespan. While dust and sand have minimal effects on Electronic Speed Controllers (ESCs), water exposure poses a risk of short-circuiting, which coudl lead to catastrophic failures during flight. By safeguarding both the motor and ESC from solid and liquid intrusion, the propulsion system can function effectively in challenging environments, enhancing reliability and versatility for aircraft.
To optimize the IP rating, three critical areas of the module require protective attachments: the rotor’s top, the middle section beneath the coils, and the stator’s bottom. to address these needs,Vertiq has designed the Rotor Cover,Coil Guard,and Stator Cover,respectively,to shield these components from solid and liquid ingress.
