In a recent discussion with UST, Joseph Yaker, the Business Development Director for Public Safety at LiveU, provided valuable insights into the company’s technology, its impact on security operations, and the future landscape of real-time video surveillance.


Thank you for joining us, Joseph. To begin, could you provide an overview of LiveU and your contributions to the security sector?

Of course! LiveU is a pioneer in delivering essential, real-time video solutions tailored for public safety. Our primary goal is to enhance situational awareness, streamline response management, and facilitate command-and-control communications. We were the first to develop bonded IP video technology, which allows us to securely transmit critical audio, video, and data over wireless networks.

That sounds intriguing. Can you explain how this technology functions?

Our success stems from our proprietary LiveU Reliable Transport (LRT) technology. this system utilizes multiple connections, including 4G/5G cellular networks, low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet, to establish a robust, secure, and high-quality link between incident sites and command centers. It is indeed designed for rapid deployment, user-friendliness, and mobility—these are the key features of our solution.

So, it’s a holistic method for managing video in critical situations?

Precisely. We have combined video encoding, resilient connectivity, and collaboration tools into a single, user-kind solution. This integration simplifies operations and ensures reliability for defense personnel, first responders, and public safety officials, allowing them to concentrate on their missions rather than the technology.

Can you share some scenarios where LiveU technologies have made a difference?

Our solutions are specifically designed for situations that necessitate the real-time transmission of video and data from various sources, including drones, ground vehicles, helicopters, dash cams, and body-worn cameras. Thanks to LRT, this facts is consistently transmitted back to command centers or other devices, even from remote areas.

That’s quite remarkable. How do you maintain the reliability of your system?

our video encoders combine multiple connections—cellular, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and satellite—into a single, strong pipeline. The video signal is compressed and segmented to utilize these various transmission routes. If one connection fails, the system automatically switches to the next best choice. At the receiving end, the stream is reassembled with minimal latency. You could liken it to a teleportation device for video, akin to somthing from a sci-fi series.

That’s a clever analogy! What is LiveU’s vision for the security sector?

Our vision is straightforward: to establish the benchmark for mission-critical bonded IP video solutions, thereby contributing to a safer world. We strive to deliver real-time visual intelligence that is user-friendly and easily shareable, empowering informed decision-making and operational collaboration.

Where do you see the most important opportunities in the industry today?

The demand for real-time video surveillance is rapidly increasing. Unlike traditional systems that rely on recorded footage, real-time solutions leverage AI and video analytics to detect and assess events as they unfold. This advancement enhances security, operational efficiency, and safety by providing immediate visibility and proactive threat detection.

looking ahead, what predictions do you have for the future of the industry?

I believe video will remain a basic component of situational awareness platforms. The video surveillance market is expanding quickly, fueled by advancements in AI and growing security demands. LiveU’s solutions are well-positioned to capitalize on this growth, especially in delivering secure, high-quality video feeds from drones, vehicles, and other sources.

What do you find most fulfilling about your role at LiveU?

Honestly, it’s the ever-changing nature of the work. Each day presents new challenges. Though, the most rewarding aspect is knowing that our technology plays a crucial role in saving lives and enhancing safety around the globe; that’s what truly drives me.
