Boxfish Robotics has significantly upgraded the imaging capabilities of its autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) by introducing an advanced 4K camera head.
The Boxfish ROV (remotely operated vehicle) and Boxfish Alpha models are already equipped wiht high-sensitivity cameras that enhance image clarity.
The Boxfish Luna, the company’s premier cinematic model, features a professional-grade 50M, 8K 10-bit full-frame sensor camera, which has garnered acclaim from filmmakers worldwide.
Advancements in Autonomous Technology
Leveraging its imaging expertise, Boxfish has integrated these enhancements into its autonomous systems and robotics.
The Boxfish AUV and ARV-i systems now come with a 20MP,4K video camera that delivers exceptional video quality, complemented by stereo machine vision cameras for autonomous navigation.
Moreover, optimized lighting solutions have been implemented to ensure high-quality video capture even in low-visibility environments.
Redesign of the 4K Camera Head
The original design combined the large 4K camera with two machine vision cameras within a single dome.
While this utilized existing 1,000m optics from the ROV systems, it created challenges for the accuracy of machine vision due to the positioning of the cameras.
Boxfish has reengineered the camera head, launching a second generation that features separate domes for each stereo camera and a larger dome for the primary 4K camera. This new configuration aligns better with the 4K camera’s lens, resulting in superior image quality and enhanced 3D machine vision capabilities.
Looking Ahead: Future Innovations
Boxfish is committed to ongoing innovation in underwater imaging for autonomous systems, with the goal of transforming how users perceive and interact with the underwater environment.
The company is dedicated to pushing the limits of underwater imaging technology, establishing new benchmarks in the autonomous underwater robotics sector.
High-quality imagery is essential for effective underwater exploration. Boxfish Robotics emphasizes exceptional image quality in its underwater robotics offerings. Its ROVs are recognized for their outstanding video clarity, precise control, and agility.
