Boxfish Research has revealed that its Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) are now equipped with autonomous capabilities, enabling clients to secure their investment for the future.

Enhancing Underwater Operations with Automation

The introduction of autonomous and semi-autonomous functionalities to the Boxfish ROV platform is designed to improve data quality,enhance survey consistency,and boost efficiency in underwater tasks. This advancement aligns with the growing trend of integrating robotic technology, automation, and artificial intelligence in subsea operations and offshore sectors, particularly as autonomous systems and unattended facilities become more prevalent.

Streamlining Inspections and Research

In the realm of industrial ROV applications, ther is significant potential to leverage autonomy for repetitive tasks, such as inspecting submerged assets over time, conducting subsea surveys, and facilitating scientific research. For instance, once an operator has mapped out an inspection route, the ROV can autonomously repeat the inspection, allowing onshore personnel to analyze consistent video and sensor data over time to detect any anomalies. In fully-autonomous mode, a Boxfish ROV can be pre-programmed by researchers to explore aquatic environments, systematically gathering data through its onboard sensors.

Boxfish has confirmed that the necessary infrastructure is now established, making it straightforward to upgrade existing Boxfish ROVs to hybrid autonomous vehicles by simply integrating new hardware and software.
