Cambridge Pixel Delivers New Capabilities for Counter-UAS Radar

Cambridge Pixel has delivered a state-of-the-art radar control and display system for Weibel Scientific’s XENTA surveillance radar.

The XENTA radar is a modern 3D radar with continuous target illumination and synthetic receiver beamforming. The XENTA-M is available for short range air defense, and the XENTA-C provides counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS) capabilities.

Cambridge Pixel was tasked with developing a multi-console software solution for the XENTA radar. The system includes advanced radar display capabilities with mapping and recording, radar control functions, track management and prioritization, and track filtering for seamless integration with third-party command-and-control (C2) systems.

The solution is built on Cambridge Pixel’s extensive library of radar processing software. The project involved the development of a bespoke radar controller tailored to the specific requirements of the XENTA radar.

Additionally, enhancements were made to existing capabilities such as improved MIL-STD-2525 overlay graphics and support for dual-redundant operator consoles. These developments were integrated into Cambridge Pixel’s modular products to ensure reliability and scalability.

The project showcased the versatility of Cambridge Pixel’s technology, which included the Air Situation Display (ASD-100), SPx Track Manager for track filtering and format conversion, Threat Processor software for prioritisation, and RDR Data Recorder. System monitoring and resilience were provided by SPx Monitor, ensuring robustness across all operations.

Denmark-based Weibel selected Cambridge Pixel for its technical expertise, rapid development capabilities, and adaptability to complex project requirements.

Henrik Olsson, Product Line Director at Weibel, commented, “The end-user wanted a mature radar control software that needed minimum adaptations while fulfilling all control and display requirements of the XENTA radar. Cambridge Pixel had both the software and the expertise that we were looking for, and could provide the flexibility and responsiveness we needed to support a successful project delivery.”

Richard Warren, software director at Cambridge Pixel, added, “We are proud to have contributed to the success of this project. By leveraging our flexible software modules, we were able to enhance existing capabilities and deliver a tailored solution that meets the rigorous demands of air defence and counter-UAS applications. This project highlights our commitment to supporting cutting-edge radar innovation.”
